Barrell (Joseph) Mansion is built.

Architect: Charles Bulfinch. Also known as Pleasant Hill, it is located on Cobble Hill in Charlestown in an area that is today part of Somerville. Described by Robert Mussey Jr. and Clark Pearce as “The first monumental country estate and house built in the Boston area after the Revolution,” it is later purchased by John McLean, who donates it for use as McLean Hospital in 1818.*
